Profile:
Bob Harlow has worked with FileMaker Pro since 1990 and watched that program grow from a simple end-user flat file database to a development environment that is multi-user, relational, cross-platform, web-enabled, and still user-programmable. FileMaker Pro is unique in the world of computer software for its combination of ease, friendliness, and power.
Bob's clients experience a dramatic increase in the amount of work they can turn out in a short period of time, drastic reductions in the time it takes for new employees to become effective at their jobs, and the ability to do business in ways they had only dreamed of before. He has taught many hundreds of individuals to become better computer users, while creating powerful systems for them to work with in enjoyable ways.
In 13 years Bob has helped over 75 businesses and organizations in the Bay Area to improve their sales, support their customers, and empower their staff with productive tools to do their work better. These companies have included American Express, Charles Schwab, Genentech, Seybold Seminars, and many dozens of highly respected small businesses in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Bob is a master of the creative use of information technologies to make our working lives more fun, interesting, productive, useful, and powerful. He founded Micro Computer Consulting in 1990 to help people have more enjoyable computing experiences and increase the productivity of their personal and business computer systems. He has taught classes in FileMaker Pro, and is the founder and leader of the FileMaker SIG in San Rafael, California.
Bob has created graceful, elegant software solutions in the areas of architecture, alpaca ranching, catering, customer relationship management, event planning, financial services, fundraising, graphic design, gourmet teas, international education, landscape architecture, seminar administration, property management, television production, theatre ticketing, travel, winemaking, and many more.
Bob received his B.A. degree, cum laude, from Harvard University in Architectural Sciences in 1968, and went on to graduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley, in Architecture in 1969-70. He worked in architecture and structural engineering until video and computers caught his eye in the early 1970's and he has never looked back.
Clients have commented on Bob's ability to teach people complex computer skills, techniques and concepts in plain understandable language. A renowned cultural anthropologist has said,
"Bob Harlow's work is consistently creative, practical, and impeccable. He's an exceptional problem-solver, empathetic listener, and models true collaboration and good people skills. My staff and I aptly call him 'The Wizard.' Our capacity for delivering quality customer service is a direct result of his programming skills." - Angeles Arrien
